I built DocPilot because job hunting felt unnecessarily complicated. Job seekers were using different tools for resumes, job matching, applications, cover letters, and interview preparation, so I wanted to bring the entire process into one AI-powered platform.
Where it came from
I saw how difficult it was for job seekers to know if their resume was actually good enough for a specific job, what keywords they were missing, and how to prepare for the next stage. I wanted to build something that could guide someone from finding the right job all the way to preparing for the interview.
How it got built
I started with a simple idea: make the job search process easier with AI. I built the first version, iterating feature by feature as I learned what job seekers actually needed. The hardest part was connecting everything into one workflow, from resume building and ATS scoring to job matching, applications, and interview preparation. I kept testing, fixing, and improving the product until it became the platform it is today.
I chose React and Tailwind CSS to move quickly on the product interface, Firebase for authentication and data, Vercel for deployment, Gemini for the AI features, and Paystack for payments. The stack allowed me to build and iterate quickly without needing a large engineering team.
How it found users
I launched DocPilot on Product Hunt, then started posting consistently on Twitter to build awareness. I later focused on SEO, which became one of my strongest growth channels. So far, DocPilot has reached 700+ visitors and 36 users, and I’m continuing to experiment with different ways to grow.
How it makes money
I initially launched DocPilot with a $3 one-time payment when the product had only a few features. As I expanded the platform and added more tools for the entire job search process, I realized the pricing needed to evolve with the value. DocPilot is now $9.99/month, with a $129 lifetime option.
